A combination of the above are contributing factor, but Grant Hill’s mother, Janet Hill, said it best; the most significant misconception is that the missing element in the big picture is to properly prepare the individual athlete to transition from being poor to becoming wealthy by a stroke of a pen!

That mindset that young never look at the life acceptancy of their careers is projectivity far lower than they can imagine. Let’s not forget about the college players with the new ruling for these players ….where they too can benefit from their school’s earning potential based on the sport. The “shelf life” of athletes is tiny. Wyatt Investment Research article Five Reasons Professional Athletes Go Broke states that the average career span in the NBA, MLB, and NFL is 4.8, 5.6, and 3.5 years, respectively. Professionals in this industry have a small window to make millions; if they don’t, they cannot survive on their savings for very long (even if they saved responsibly). Troubling trend that has been a growing problem for years:

It was disconcerting to see so much newfound wealth wasted like for example, Dwayne Haskins or Antoine Walker went from 110 million to broke due to a lack of correct instructions for transitioning from spending and consuming to allowing your wealth to work harder than they do.
